On Oct. 30, 1956, 52 boys at Romeo Community High School faced a deadline to
either trim their Elvis Presley-like hairstyles or leave the school. The
Superintendent of Romeo Community High School imposed the deadline after teachers
complained the students' sideburns and duck-tail haircuts spawned defiant
behavior.
